Root LG Nexus 5X on MMB29P factory image [Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow]


Nexus 5X just got another latest firmware update by Google. Google has released MMB29P factory image for LG Nexus 5X based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow carrying some important security improvements and bug fixes. We have posted guide on the installation procedure of MMB29P factory image on Nexus 5X, if you didn’t update your device yet then follow this guide. In this tutorial you are going to root LG Nexus 5X on MMB29P factory image Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

LG Nexus 5X is the latest device released by Google in collaboration with old partner LG, once you have this device you would need to root your device to gain full access to internal settings and modification of system. Previously we have posted a guide on the root process of Huawei Nexus 6P.

Enable USB Debugging (Settings >> Developer Options >> USB debugging)

Your phone battery should be charged minimum 60%

Your device bootloader should be unlocked or Click Here

Download these files:

Download Nexus 5X USB drivers.

Download and Extract adb fastboot.

Download TWRP recovery

Download SuperSU v2.66

Process to root LG Nexus 5X on MMB29P factory image

Just follow the below simple steps in sequence to install custom recovery on LG Nexus 5X.

Extract the downloaded custom recovery file and rename in to recovery.img

Now connect your device to the PC using USB cable.

Open the adb-and-fastboot folder you extracted earlier and copy the custom recovery inside the adb-and-fastboot folder.

Inside adb-and-fastboot folder, press SHIFT and Right-Click on an empty space inside the same folder.

Click on Open command prompt here as shown in picture below.


Now enter the following command to boot your device into bootloader mode,

“adb reboot bootloader”

Then type the following command to flash custom recovery in your device,

“fastboot flash recovery recovery.img”

Wait for the process to complete.

Once you have successfully installed custom recovery now its time to root your LG Nexus 5X

How to root LG Nexus 5X using TWRP recovery

Just follow the below steps in sequence to obtain root access on your LG Nexus 5X

Connect your device to your PC

Copy the in the internal memory of your LG Nexus 5X

Turn off your device and enter into Recovery mode by using hardware key combination or by typing the following command.

         ” adb reboot recovery “

Once your device reboot into recovery mode, hit Install

Select the file and swipe the slider to start flashing.

Once the installation process is complete, select Reboot.
