Install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Sony Xperia Z3 [AOSP]



Android 6.0 Marshmallow AOSP builds are heading toward popular Sony Xperia devices. The release of official Android 6.0 Marshmallow for compatible devices is still in the waiting list however the AOSP builds are released for multiple devices on almost daily basis. Today in this guide we are covering up the tutorial to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Sony Xperia Z3 via AOSP ROM, previously we have posted guides on Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z Compact.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Xperia Z3 is currently in the testing staged and you will not be able to access Cellular Network, but if you wish to see Latest firmware on your Xperia Z3 then just go ahead and follow our complete procedure. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Xperia Z3 is not an official update but it is based on pure AOSP ROM and has all the feature of Stock Android Marshmallow.

You can easily revert back to Stock firmware whenever you wish to do so, just go ahead and you will be briefed through complete process to install Android 6.0 M on Xperia Z3.

How to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Xperia Z3

Enable USB Debugging (Settings >> Developer Options >> USB debugging)

Your phone battery should be charged minimum 60%

Download these files:

Download Sony USB drivers.

Download and Extract adb fastboot.

Download these ROM files




Process to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Xperia Z3

Just follow the below simple steps in sequence to update Android 6.0 Marshmallow on your Xperia Z3

Connect your device to the PC using USB cable.

Open the adb-and-fastboot folder you extracted earlier and copy the extracted contents of Android 6.0 Marshmallow inside the adb-and-fastboot folder.

Now Open the adb-and-fastboot folder, press SHIFT and Right-Click on an empty space inside the same folder.

Click on Open command prompt here as shown in picture below.


Type the following command to boot your device into bootloader mode,

“adb reboot bootloader”

Then type the following command to flash boot on your Xperia Z3,

“fastboot flash boot boot.img”

Wait for the process to complete and then type the following command

“fastboot flash system system.img”

Then type command userdata to flash userdata your device,

“fastboot flash userdata userdata.img”


Once the process is completed, reboot the device.

Flash Android 6.0 Google Apps on Xperia Z3

Now you need to flash Google Apps using custom recovery, (TWRP or CWM)

Download Google Apps (gapps)

Connect your device to PC and transfer the package to internal storage of your device

Turn off your device and reboot into recovery mode using hardware key combination or third party app.

In the recovery menu select install and choose the and flash it.

Now go back and select clear cache and select reboot.
