Install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on LG Nexus 4 D820/D821


Android 6.0 Marshmallow AOSP ROM is now available for LG Google Nexus 4 D820/D821. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow is already out for other Nexus devices and Nexus 4 remained unlucky to taste the official Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware, so developers listen to the user’s request and developed Android 6.0 Marshmallow build for Nexus 4 D820/D821. We have previously posted the same guide for Nexus 4 E960 and now we are going to perform the same steps to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Nexus 4 D820 and Nexus 4 D821.

The ROM is based on pure AOSP and all the major features are reported working fine. Just go ahead and install the latest operating system Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Google Nexus 4 with D820 and D821 variant.

How to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Nexus 4 D820/D821

Enable USB Debugging (Settings >> Developer Options >> USB debugging)

Your phone battery should be charged minimum 60%

Your device bootloader should be unlocked or Click Here (Remember: The bootloader unlock process for all the nexus devices is the same so follow the whole procedure as described in Nexus 6P post)

Custom recovery like TWRP must be installed on your device.

Download these files:

Download Nexus USB drivers.

Download Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM for Nexus 4 D820/D821

Download Android 6.0 Marshmallow Google Apps (Gapps)

Process to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Nexus 4 D820/D821

Just follow the below simple steps in sequence to update Android 6.0 Marshmallow on your Nexus 4 D820/D821

Connect your device to your PC using USB cable and transfer the downloaded Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM zip along on the internal storage of your device.

Turn of your device and boot into custom Recovery menu by the hardware keys combination or using any third party app (Mostly found in Play store).

Once your device enters into recovery mode, create a Nandroid backup of your device or follow our guide to create a Nandroid backup (this will create a backup of your complete device including current firmware) if something goes wrong you can restore your previous firmware.

Once the Nandroid process completes, navigate and select wipe data/factory reset.(this will erase your data)

Now it’s the time to flash the Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM on your device. Choose “install zip from sdcard” >> choose zip from sdcard & navigate to the folder in which you have copied the custom file and select it.

Swipe to confirm install, wait for a few minutes till the file is completely installed in your device.

Once completed, reboot your device.

If your device is taking longer then 7-10 minutes then follow this guide to to fix this issue 

Once the process is completed, reboot the device.
