In this guide you are going to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on your Galaxy Nexus. Android 6.0 Marshmallow has already released officially for Nexus devices but Galaxy Nexus being too old lost firmware update support. Even the Google Nexus 7 2012 and Nexus 10 remained unlucky for getting Marshmallow update, but the developers had already made them lucky for not only providing the firmware update but the latest firmware update Android 6.0 Marshmallow available till date for Nexus devices.
Now the Galaxy Nexus also came into the hands of devs and that’s the reason they modified the Marshmallow source code and made it compatible to run on Galaxy Nexus. Enable USB Debugging (Settings >> Developer Options >> USB debugging)
Your phone battery should be charged minimum 60%
Custom recovery like TWRP must be installed on your device.
Download these files:
Download USB drivers.

Download Android 6.0 Marshmallow Google Apps (Gapps)
Process to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Galaxy Nexus
Just follow the below simple steps in sequence to update Android 6.0 Marshmallow on your Galaxy Nexus
Connect your device to your PC using USB cable and transfer the downloaded Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM zip along gapps.zip on the internal storage of your device.
Turn of your device and boot into custom Recovery menu by the hardware keys combination or using any third party app (Mostly found in Play store).
Once your device enters into recovery mode, create a Nandroid backup of your device or follow our guide to create a Nandroid backup (this will create a backup of your complete device including current firmware) if something goes wrong you can restore your previous firmware.
Once the Nandroid process completes, navigate and select wipe data/factory reset.(this will erase your data)
Now it’s the time to flash the Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM on your device. Choose “install zip from sdcard” >> choose zip from sdcard & navigate to the folder in which you have copied the custom ROM.zip file and select it.
Swipe to confirm install, wait for a few minutes till the file is completely installed in your device.
Now perform the same method to install gapps.zip on your device.
Once completed, reboot your device.

Once the process is completed, reboot the device.
